AAK Sustainability Clinics

The AAK Oils and Fats Academy is expanding its series of Sustainability Clinics to guide businesses through the potentially complex process of using sustainable palm oil products as certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

The clinics are designed to explain how to make RSPO sustainability claims, and offer advice for those using complex blends and derivatives of palm oil, which may not yet be available in a segregated sustainable form.

Sustainable supply options

There are four supply chain options approved by the RSPO, including segregated supplies and the GreenPalm certificate trading programme.

You may wish to use one of these options, or a combination. The choice is largely determined by your particular business and the kind of palm product you buy, and AAK can answer your questions and help you to select the method best suited to you.

Customers using the products do not have to make RSPO sustainability claims, but if they wish to meet growing consumer demand for products that contain sustainable palm oil, there are several steps they must follow, such as gaining membership of the RSPO.

Deadline for sustainability

Most of the UK’s leading retailers have stated that the palm oil used in their own-label products must be RSPO-certified sustainable material by 2015. Some have given an even earlier deadline of 2012.

This will have enormous implications for suppliers, so it important to find out now what is required and how the multiples’ demands can be met.

Bespoke sessions

Businesses can organise personalised Sustainability Clinics or individual sessions for employees, either at AAK’s refinery in Hull, or at other venues in the UK. To discuss hosting or attending an AAK Sustainability Clinic, email judith.murdoch@aak.com or call +44 (0)1482 332173.
